Was oval piston technology a waste of time?

Did Honda ever carry on with developing oval piston technology?

Did the costs out weigh the benefits?

Were there over come-able difficulties?

Was the project what is referred to as an engineering exercise?

I believe Honda only developed engine with oval pistons for a motorbike.Was oval piston technology a waste of time?
honda found out a few things about their oval piston technology;



1: it worked. it gave a four cylinder engine a torque curve very similar to a six cylinder engine



2: machining the cylinder bores was very expensive and time consuming



3: machining the pistons wasnt too bad, but did require some special techniques



4: piston ring technology wasnt up to working well with the oval design.



it wasnt a bad idea, but in the end was too expensive, and had a couple of problems that wer not able to be overcome.Was oval piston technology a waste of time?
To be honest the rate of combustion in an oval piston is lessened due to the shape of it.

I hope that they did give it up as a bad job. all that was there to do was to make an engine more compact.Was oval piston technology a waste of time?
It would have probably proved to be as good of an idea as the aluminum Chevy Vega engine.
