It's hard to answer your question because all of the alternative choices we have today have existed for many decades. I mean, battery powered cars were made back in 1910!! Problem was that batteries were terrible back then, even worse than now. Batteries we have now are space age compared to back 100 years ago.
I think the power cell is a very good chance at being fairly good provider, altho' currently it still cannot produce enough. Nothing can beat fossil fuels, not even making bio-fuels. With all the corn this country produces and sells out in the world, we could not produce enough ethanol from our annual corn crop to power our vehicles that exist in our country at this time. Just doesn't have the combustion ration good enough.
