Possibly the most important device in that time was the refining and improvement of the basic steam engines from small devices that could barely run for more that a few minutes to the vast industrial size machines that were created by inventors like James Watt, Thomas Newcomen etc. that would alter the way that wealth was generated (from land based to industrial commerce).
It was these machines that started the industrial revolution and changed the world.
