What is the difference between Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology?

I am currently looking at colleges right now and I have narrowed it down to two schools. One offers Information Technology and the other offers Mechanical Engineering. My questions are what the differences between the two are? Which makes more money? Which one has more job options?What is the difference between Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology?
Do you remember that person who told you that there is no such thing as a stupid question?

Well both information technology and mechanical engineering are altogether different games. Mechanical engineering is something about machines, cars, manufacturing, designing the products etc while information technology is related to software, webs, internet technologies etc.What is the difference between Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology?
Information Technology is related to IT sector and deal with Computers, Programing languages, Web designing etc. Mechanical Engineering deal with cars, machines, motor bikes etc.
Mech engg is for hardwares.

IT is for software.
