Hi I'm working on a bachelors in viola performance from the New England Conservatory, but I have no idea what a music technology degree entails, however it sounds interesting for graduate study because I'm interested in technology as well as music...any information would be appreciated, I'm trying to research it...thanks!What is a music technology degree and what sort of job would one obtain with it?
Hi,
In a nutshell, a 'music technology' degree will usually cover the programming/recording/mixing/editing/pro鈥?side of music. In theory it provides the student with the expertise to work in the professional recording studio, live sound mixing and broadcast areas. I say in theory because there are so many students studying music technology and very few openings!
It's always good for a musician to understand what goes on in recording studios as it helps when being involved in sessions. Doing a degree is, however, quite a long-winded way of getting that knowledge, to be honest. Hope this helps.
