Do you think that technology has made us too accessable for work?

Do you think that employers expect us to be contactable all the time simply because it is technologically possible?

How can we actively promote a work life balance when there are so many advances in technology that mean we can be contacted wherever we are, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

What do YOU do to make sure you have balance in your life? Or don't you?Do you think that technology has made us too accessable for work?
yep.. but people have to stand up and say screw off..Do you think that technology has made us too accessable for work?
yes

What is usually considered technology to a technopath?

I have been coming up with a superhero and she is a technopath. But the most common question people ask me, online when I bring her up is "what constitutes as technology?" Which I think is a good question. I would think it would be more than just electronic things, like maybe guns? or some mechanisms. Not sure, but what do you think? What is usually considered technology to a technopath?
I'd say no to most guns, just because most sidearms are mechanically controlled--there's not a lot there to modify in terms of either the machine or the chemistry that fires the bullet.

However, I would say that your _average_ technopath should be able to control, at least somewhat, anything electrical or electronic. Granted, a lot of this is going to depend on how well the character understands technology and _gets it_, but if a "technopath" can't make a light bulb flicker on and off, something's wrong with her.

In simple terms she should be able to at _least_ turn electrical devices on and off. And as you move from there to things more complex than flashlights, she should be able to do more--for example, broadcast her voice into someone's radio or cellphone. It should be a continuum though--meaning a simple device only allows her to do a few things (turn on, turn off, and overload/blow up), while a more complex device lets her do more.

The limits to this should be clear though: she shouldn't be able to access the internet through a flashlight or transistor radio. She should need actual access to a _computer_ or computational device, that is networked or online in some way, to actually have her powers manifest on the internet that way.

And what she does online really shouldn't do so much to "offline" devices. She shouldn't be able to tweak a traffic sign and crosswalk system to the point of changing the "walk/don't walk" signal to "RUN", for example. Unless the signal itself is an LED or LCD based design that can physically support that function, trying to do that--make a device do things it wasn't _built to do_--should break/overload the thing.

Just my humble two cents. What is usually considered technology to a technopath?
Thanks kindly for the Best Answer. And honestly....in terms of narrative it just works better if you start it on simple things and build her up. Pretty much start with the "on/off/overload" thing and have her work up to the more elaborate, subtle stuff.

id say technopaths control stuff that have computers in them.
cars, atms, security systems, boats, planes

Technopaths comunicate with the computers and tells them to do things.
something like a gun has nothing in it that can be "spoken to" to tell it to shoot

atleast that would be my take on it.

Why do most of technology companies in the USA require US citizenship to their new hires?

It seems that companies that directly or indirectly provide services to the US government are required to have employees that are all US citizens. Why? What if you some person is the next Novel Prize but has another nationality? Is this person eligible to work in technology companies the USA?Why do most of technology companies in the USA require US citizenship to their new hires?
Because they have to be able to show that the person has an extreme interest in holding details of the job private. To get a security clearance for an employee costs the company a lot of money and they are not going to waste that money filing for someone that may not be granted the clearance. If there is an expert in a field there are ways to get permissions to hire someone that isn't a US citizen but that is extremely expensive and they would only do it for people that are world experts in a field.
Better safe than sorry, I always say.

The reason being ... due to the highly sensitive nature of the products being developed it is essential to have employment practices that do not include individuals who may have a vested interest in corporate espionage or (worse) governmental espionage.

Example; Chinese are typically very intellectually and technologically gifted people but we all know that Chinese "pirates" have been stealing intellectual property for years, as we hear about it weekly.

While it's true that nearly anyone from any walk of life can be tempted by greed, I suppose that greed coupled with loyalty to a foreign interest could be a far more lethal cocktail. Why do most of technology companies in the USA require US citizenship to their new hires?
Because you may be seeing your new technology heading overseas when the person returns.

If they have citizenship, they are less likely to leave with all the technical plans in their heads to

    enrich another country.
.....and it is NOBEL prize--not novel

what your dealing with here is business at a global and international level owned by corporations----they may hire and fire whom they please.....Why do most of technology companies in the USA require US citizenship to their new hires?
Its cheaper to hire US citizens But when you get to the upper echelons of expertise

most corporation hire head hunters to find the people they need worldwide
Security, the govt and many other firms require US hires only.

Don't know how new this technology is, but many law enforcement agencies are using tazers to great effect.

Before, if someone attacked a police officer with a knife, the officers would have no choice but to shoot them with guns. Now, they have the option of using tazers, which are less lethal.

Notice how I said "less lethal" not "non lethal." Tazers have been known to kill, but it's rare. What is a New Technology being used by law enforcement?
cops have this rocket powered thing on wheels that is located under the police car. during a car chase the cop can activate it and it will shoot out from under the cop car and will go under the car being chased. it has electrodes on it and will start shocking the car with high electrical current. it then messes up the electrical system of the car and shuts it down. then the car stops and the cops get the bad guy. i saw this on the discovery channel. its really cool. its not wide spread yet but will be. it decreases the lengh of a potentially dangerous high speed car chase
I don't know if this is considered technology but I got a speeding ticket in the mail for going 96 mph and wasn't even pulled over. I guess they have a helicopter that took my speed. we use satellites all the time to get perimeters on earth. they have electronic that determine perimeter sizes automatically, with programming that fills in operation functions in the devices. like a math problem being done by a computer, except it is getting and transmitting real life information, like scanning for weather patterns over a specific area.

the computers can either calculate that area, or you can use the intel form the computers to effectively perform a separate operation.

Is Information Technology a good choice of course?

Hi! My name is Karl and I am planning to take up Information Technology in college because I really am fond of computers and the internet. I just want to know the following:

    1. What is Information Technology all about?

    2. What are the possible jobs that I can have after I finished studying Information Technology?

Thanks for answering! Is Information Technology a good choice of course?
    1) Information in the narrow sense is about the use of computers to accomplish tasks and the associated maintenance of said systems.

    2) Well, the use of computers is prevalent everywhere now, so the most important part of getting jobs working with computers these days are not general skills, but coupling knowledge of computers with specific knowledge other subject matter. Everyone has to specialize to some degree, so pick another subject you find interesting to tie in :)

In broad measure, the IT world falls into the category of people who administer systems, and people who program (although that line is blurry). Is Information Technology a good choice of course?
    1. The Technology that is used to handle Information. Duh. Seriously, this is an amazingly over-broad question.

    2. Programmer, researcher, manager, UI designer, technical support, hardware designer. The list goes on.

Is Applied Physics a good field to study for green technology and alternative energy?

How employable would someone with a Doctorate in Applied Physics be, in the alternative energy/green technology field?

What kind of jobs would such a person have?Is Applied Physics a good field to study for green technology and alternative energy?
YES! ABSOLUTELY!!! The application of physics is what inventors practice on a daily basis. As for the type of job, that would mainly be design engineer. One thing that you can do is think out of the box. You should delve into the practice critical thinking. You can do is apply the use of neodyme magnets for turning a generator, ask yourself questions such as "what would this do in a vacuum environment"? Will it increase the energy output? What natural kinetic energies can be used to turn a generator? What size unit would power a home? Is there any electronic pollution and if there is can I convert that pollution into etheric energy? Is Applied Physics a good field to study for green technology and alternative energy?
An applied physics PhD might well make you employable in the alternative energy sector, but almost every job listed in this and related fields calls for some form of an engineering degree.

A PE is HIGHLY employable in green tech and alternative energy at the operations level. At the theoretical or design level, perhaps a PhD would be an asset. There are just fewer of those positions out there.

What"Web Technology role in “Distance Learning” is the final and ultimate approach to meet the learning requir?

Web technology has significantly changed the exchange of information, allowing anyone with access to a personal computer with on-line capability the opportunity to gather substantial materials from diverse and wide-ranging sources. Computer literacy and Internet facility are still not universal skills, though more and more individuals are becoming skilled at using computers and at accessing the Internet. By creating a digital framework in which a community of peers can evaluate and organize these efforts, we can begin to build not only an increasingly robust and complex array of learning opportunities for adult students of diverse and often entrenched learning styles, but the knowledge base by which their teachers can establish best practices, pedagogical strategies, and an in understanding of their endeavor. The Internet has had a profound impact on the ways in which many different tasks are accomplished. What"Web Technology role in “Distance Learning” is the final and ultimate approach to meet the learning requir?

Is there any technology that converts heat to energy?

For heavy industry, a steel plant will produce a lot of heat during forging the steel, and that heat could be collected and convert to electricity or some other form of energy.

Do we have that technology available today and what is it called?

Thank you.Is there any technology that converts heat to energy?
The technology is not the problem as it rarely is.

in a steel mill it may be possible to create steam from the heat to drive a generator.

but that would probably be uneconomical, in my electromechanics lectures all the lecturer ever talks about is how energy plans have to be economical, That's why coal and natural gas is still by far the most common power source.

In a steel mill it will be more economical to prevent heat losses and be efficient in heating etc then to try to recover energy with costly generator machines
First of all heat is itself a form of energy.

The heat produced in heavy industries is converted into steam and this steam may be used for some other work. But i doubt if electricity can be generated through this.Is there any technology that converts heat to energy?
In Power Boilers Heat produced in the furnace converts water circulated in boiler tubes to steam. This steam is Superheated and comes to Steam Turbine. Superheated means to heat steam further to get dry. Other ways due to entering steam to blades in Turbine will be damaged very soon due to erosion.

So in Steam Turbine steam passes through impulse/Reaction blades and it will rotate in high speed like 7000rpm. Then speed reduced to 3000 rpm to generator and produces Electric Energy.

In Boiler used fuel for heating is Coal or Furnace Oil,or Petroleum Gas or Wood Etc.

We have seen heat energy in Boiler converts heat to Electrical Power.

Thus in Automobile air fuel mixture burns and gas expand and makes power. Here Heat Energy converts into MECHANICAL Energy.
Heat IS energy. the heat released as part of a process like steel production isn't produced by the process, it is a requirement for the process.

Since there is always energy loss in a conversion process, the best solution in such situations is to isolate the heated area to minimize the loss rather than impose another layer of heat conversion outside of the system to recover the loss Improve efficiency of the primary process is always better than recovering a part of the loss due to inefficiency. Is there any technology that converts heat to energy?
The steam engine. We've had it for a while.
thermocouples and waste energy recovery steam turbines will start you off.
Definitely you can convert heat in to energy. The most common example of that process is old railway steam engine.

  • What type of technology would be already created in this alternate 1899?

Hello. I need to know what types of technology would be already created for this advances in this alternate 1899 that is more advanced than the real one.

    - rockets to the moon.

    - underground buildings.

    - radio.

    - government computers only for lists.

    - cars

    - airplanes

    - airships.

I need these information please. Thank You! :)What type of technology would be already created in this alternate 1899?
Check out Steampunk. What type of technology would be already created in this alternate 1899?
Cars already existed, although they were *very* primitive and used as playthings for the rich, not for transportation. The first airplane flight was in 1905 - not that very far in the real future. Hot air balloons existed and were pretty common. Airships would not be that big a stretch. Radio already existed - although it was bulky and expensive and could just send morse code. The ancient Egyptians had underground buildings, so they were possible, certainly.

So I'd say Underground buildings, radio (go ahead and say voice), real cars, primitive airplanes (not airliners, but more like WW1 stuff) and airships.

Computers are out of the question. They didn't happen until late in WW2 and even then they were awkward, slow, huge (several rooms big) and required almost an electrical sub-station to power them. It took a team of full-time engineers just to run simple programs. In even an advanced 1899 they wouldn't have been dreamed of yet.

Same for moon rockets. When we went to the moon in the 1960's it was a huge stretch - the first several attempts missed the moon altogether and just shot by it. And... they require computers! The rocket would have to adjust its course several times on the way and the amount of precision math and angles involved would be more that the people aboard could manage without help from a computer center on the ground. You also have things like exotic fuels and high-temperature metals for the engines to worry about. The best your 1899 folks could do would be to blow up the launch pad trying. What type of technology would be already created in this alternate 1899?
For radio, they would need to be able to generate electricity. That doesn't mean that there would have been power or radios in every household. Probably the best they could have done unless things were VERY different would be a radio in every post office.

They would have needed to be able to produce synthetic materials like heat resistant tile to take the heat of friction from air resistance during takeoff and reentry, as well as more advanced chemical propellants than simple gunpowder or nitro. Alternatively, if their electrical equipment was VERY advanced, they could take a big carrier airship up with an ion rocket that would be more efficient, but less powerful. Such a craft would not need as much heat resistance, but would have to orbit several times to build up enough speed with the weaker rockets to escape the Earth's gravity.

Airships would have taken larger-scale production and assembly of frames and of helium or hydrogen than was common. They had equipment to generate enough helium to lift several balloons during the American Civil War, but not on the scale that would have been needed for regular, safe, and reliable cargo or passenger flights. Modern airships are made from synthetic materials that weren't invented yet in the 1800's.

Underground buildings would have been tough feats of engineering and architecture, but doable.

If they had enough electricity for radios, primitive counting computers would have been no problem. Otherwise, they would have to use mechanical computers, which would be very slow. Archimedes probably could have designed one if he had known about such things. I have no idea how one would work.

They had steam cars in the 1800's, but they were few and far between. Mass production would have taken the invention of an assembly line.

Heavier-than-air airplanes would have been just barely manageable with super-light steam engines. They would be nowhere near as powerful as today's airplanes or anything earlier with an internal combustion engine and propeller. The steam planes would have been just barely able to keep themselves in the air. Forget about maneuvering. A slight tilt could send one plummeting. I wouldn't trust my life to one, not for any amount of money.

    Hope this helps.

My question is, what kind of positions should I be looking? What kind of position should someone with a Business and Technology Management degree look for?
You are already in the right arena. A degree like yours is common amongst business and technical analysts, technical writers, information technology directors, information technology recruiters and information technology human resources management. Because you have experience as an assistant project manager, I might suggest you take a look at becoming a certified project manager. It might open more doors for you.

You might also enjoy a role such as director of information technology or information systems manager.

Thanks for answering! Is Information Technology a good choice of course?
Every business, large or small, desperately needs lots and lots of information from a stunning variety of sources. You got to keep track of your tax liability. You got to keep track of local, state and federal regulations: is your facility up to code? Are you aware of your obligations regarding workman's comp? Does your facility comply with OSHA regs?

And internally, you got to keep up with demand, and that takes all sorts of tracking and record-keeping: how many pounds does your shop use over a month's production run? How much paper do you use? How much ink do your printers consume in a month? How can you economize on all that so that your overhead does not overwhelm your anticipate income?

That is what your IT department does - it helps you keep track of all the above and much more.

IT pays well. An experienced programmer/analyst can expect $50 - $65 thousand a year, and in some situations, six-figure salaries can be had.

As you draw toward the end of your studies, your school will be able to offer you job counseling services, which will tell you what the possible jobs are.

I took Info-Tech in college (granted, that was quite some time ago), but it opens up a wide area of study for you.

Information Technology is really about the technology of computers, their 'languages', hardware, software, programming, networking, etc.

Possible jobs once you finish the I/T program? Network analyst, I/T Support Services, Web Design, Systems Analyst, Systems Design....there is a wide variety of jobs you can apply yourself to - it all depends on which area of I/T you prefer.

Good luck %26amp; enjoy....Is Information Technology a good choice of course?
i don't think so,because of the degrading market and faulty market conditions the field has lost its zenith.Due to market price inflation and the lowering use of IT SECTORS the others are more advanced and developed. You could also pursue engineering as a good choice. Its vast and enables u to do the best in any market situations.

What kinds of technology would we need to bring dinosaurs back to life?

If we had super-advanced technology, in like 200 years, could we re-create dinosaurs like in Jurassic Park? Or is there something else we'd need to have or know? Or is it just plain impossible? What kinds of technology would we need to bring dinosaurs back to life?
It is impossible as far as we can tell. Jurassic Park was a story. If anyone has been able to obtain dinosaur DNA, and that is still very much in dispute, the amount the have found is miniscule. Trying to reconstruct a dinosaur from what we have is literally like trying to physically reconstruct New York City from half a page ripped out of a telephone directory. And that is not an exaggeration. We have next to no genetic information, we have absolutely no information about the way that information was configured. We have no information about how to incubate the creature if we did create it.

Those aren鈥檛 problems that can be overcome by technology. It鈥檚 not a case of retrieving the information somewhere that it鈥檚 hidden as with the human genome project. The information simply doesn鈥檛 exist. We have absolutely no way of ever getting that information ever again.

The only vaguely plausible method would be to evolutionarily 鈥榬egress鈥?living descendants of dinosaurs such as birds. That鈥檚 so far outside our ability at the moment that it鈥檚 almost pure science fiction, but it isn鈥檛 actually physically impossible the way that using fragmentary DNA is.
Just like in Jurassic Park they would kill and harm people so why would you want to ? I dont beleive it is possible though .What kinds of technology would we need to bring dinosaurs back to life?
If we could find good DNA sooner or later we could clone it but would you really want animals the size of buildings roamng around?
no.. i think it's possible... but as what we had tackled in physics, it will require a lot of things... umh... but it could only be done if we have some specimens of real dinosaurs... something like giving life to the dead... (do we have preserved dinosaurs?). it's something like... related to thermodynamics, biochemistry and Einstein's relativity theory... ( i can't be so sure about it...) but if what you mean is we're gonna make dinosaurs out of nothing... i think it's pretty impossible unless we came up with a cross breed of large reptiles... you know... genetically modified animals... yet, perhaps, you better consult my teacher, she knows lot of things about it... promise...What kinds of technology would we need to bring dinosaurs back to life?
This is why I have coined the term "theatrical biology" this cannot happen, DNA is extremely fragile and it does not take much for it to fall apart. There are no dinosaur ovum to grow the fetus even if there were dino DNA frozen somewhere. I dont think this would be something that is a good idea to do anyway.
Who says they are all still dead? There have been many sightings of dinosaur like creatures in Africa. One of the most famous is loch ness in scotland.

Far fetched? Why? We are brainwashed to believe that they cannot be living today because they lived millions of years ago.

There have been many recorded documents by ship captains who have seen dinosaur like creatures at sea.

But, many dinosaurs could not live today because of the atmospheric conditions. It has been discovered that with today's oxygen content in the atmosphere, dinosaurs would suffocate because of the size of their nostrils in relation to how much volume of oxygen they need.

Which means that the earth used to have a higher oxygen content in the atmosphere.

Give me your suggestions. Thanks in advance. What is more important in life technology or money?
    Hi sreerem:

Money is more important. Now a days technology has gotten way out of hand. Meaning thing are put on the market before the bugs are out, so in return things do not work right. Technology won't pay the bills and or put food on the table. What is more important in life technology or money?
It is one thing having plenty of money

to use as leverage but another thing altogether

to use it in a productive manor.

Take the live aid concert charity

    ,for a classic example!

    拢39,000,000 %26amp; it was predominately

    misused %26amp; wasted,

whereas if the money would have been

used to educate %26amp; for technology you

would have seen far greater %26amp; more beneficial results!

Obviously will need a computer. You'll need to use typical office products for example spreadsheets for keeping track of invite lists, budgets, etc. You'll probably also want a printer/copier/fax. If you are going to print the invites yourself, you will want an even nicer printer.

You may also need to consider a music system - if you'll be providing the music. Also a microphone, speakers.

Probably a projector also, that can run off a laptop.

Also walkie talkies, for event organizers to use while the event is going on.

You may get some answers if you post in weddings. Also Ive volunteered coordinating at large fundraising events. Thats a good way to get into the business, as these events often have a lot of wealthy people in the community and you get your name out there, besides learning the ropes.

2: machining the cylinder bores was very expensive and time consuming

3: machining the pistons wasnt too bad, but did require some special techniques

4: piston ring technology wasnt up to working well with the oval design.

it wasnt a bad idea, but in the end was too expensive, and had a couple of problems that wer not able to be overcome. Was oval piston technology a waste of time?
To be honest the rate of combustion in an oval piston is lessened due to the shape of it.

I hope that they did give it up as a bad job. all that was there to do was to make an engine more compact. Was oval piston technology a waste of time?

We made the machines to be slaves for us. Contextualy some people are slaves to machines though.

Also, technology has benefits and consequences eitherway the benefits do outweight the consquences but only up to a limited point though.
Technology has become such a 'norm' that we re relying on it rather than thinking for ourselves. It probably is stunting childrens development. When I was young, my parents would read to me, nowadays with technology young children are just propped in front of the TV or given a video game to play which usually requires not thought and does not help them build any cognitive skills. Children and adults alike are relying on technological products to do their job for them. Like calculators and computers, spell check and alike, making less thinking involved for the individual. So in reality technology can possibly be making humans less smart, when they rely on machines and other technological advances to do their thinking for them. It has made people more lazy and more likely to look for the easy way out of things. (for example, most people will take an elevator up ONE floor when given the choice over walking up ONE flight of stairs). We are slowly doing less and less for ourselves and relying on other things to do EVERYTHING for us!

What is the most important telecommunications technology for safe oil and natural gas industry in the future?

    The question reads:

What is the most important telecommunications technology necessary to promote the safe and efficient operation of pipelines and other facilities in the oil and natural gas industry for the next five years?

this is an essay question that i am supposed to answer. I don't even know the current telecommunication technologies for oil and natural gas. Any knowledge on the subject would be appreciatedWhat is the most important telecommunications technology for safe oil and natural gas industry in the future?
    Optical computing.

No electricity transmitted, so no sparks. A break in the pipeline fractures some light pipes only.

Solar cells/storage batteries drive the nodes locally, and optical computing requires virtually no electrical power to drive the node's chassis.

As time continues, solar light energy will be harnessed to provide the light source for an optical computer's switchgear. A collector will gather light to produce electricity within a sealed "head", and also charge a light pipe with filtered photonic power to feed the processors.

Optical computing was introduced in the 1970's, gained momentum in the 1980's. The B-2 Stealth Bomber uses optical computing extensively, to reduced the airborne metal content of the bird (radar cross-section). The electronics industries which control computer sales, squashed optical computers in the 1990's.

Bell Labs retailed an experimenter's cookbook chassis in the 1980's which was four-bit, slow, and unremarkable, but predictions are that optical computing will eventually run up to ten times faster than theoretical electronics chassis. What is the most important telecommunications technology for safe oil and natural gas industry in the future?

What are some unobvious examples of technology that we have at home or in schools?

Giving a presentation on technology to some year 8s, just wanted to give them some unobvious examples of technology that they would have in their house, I know there is loads I'm just seriously too tired to think, its been a long day. Thanks. What are some unobvious examples of technology that we have at home or in schools?
I was at a symposium where we were discussing various wireless devices and the speaker asked the audience to guess, or count up, how many wireless devices they had on their person. Cell phone is obvious, but then start thinking about bluetooth attachments, keyless remotes for vehicles (not too many year 8s will have one, but they know what it is I'm sure), entry badges, garage door openers, etc. and these are just the ones that can fit in your pocket. Of course wireless is just one aspect of technology, but a prevalent one these days. What are some unobvious examples of technology that we have at home or in schools?

Honestly it goes on and on, your question is rather vague thoughWhat are some unobvious examples of technology that we have at home or in schools?
I think the most brilliant yet not-so-obvious thing is the bicycle - what a brilliant invention ! It has a strong rigid steel frame, light but very strong steel or aluminium wheels that rotate around a hard steel axle using ball-bearings. The drive is by pedals, cranks, gearwheels and a chain plus gearing, with rubber tyres filled with air to give a smooth ride. The speed is constantly variable between 0 and maybe 50 mph using gears, and it doesn't use any non-renewable energy source like coal or petrol. It's a cheap, efficient and environment-friendly means of land transport. You may say a horse or donkey is cheaper, but have you seen what vets charge when THEY go wrong ? And when have you last bought a good horse for under 拢1000 ? if you have a nice bike like mine (拢500) it also has a hub dynamo and LED lights so you can see where you go at night without buying throwaway batteries or bulbs that blow after 20 or 30 hours.

    That enough for you ?

Technology that doesn't depend on limited resources or that won't cause more harm than they are worth.

    An example:

Oil and coal are not a sustainable energy source because we'll eventually run out of them or they will cause to much environmental problems.

Wind energy and solar energy are sustainable because we'll have those things for basically as long as the earth is habitable and they don't harm the environment.

Computer Science is the study of computer systems.

Computer science or computing science (abbreviated CS) is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and of practical techniques for their implementation and application in computer systems. Computer scientists invent algorithmic processes that create, describe, and transform information and formulate suitable abstractions to model complex systems.

Computer science has many sub-fields; some, such as computational complexity theory, study the properties of computational problems, while others, such as computer graphics, emphasize the computation of specific results. Still others focus on the challenges in implementing computations. For example, programming language theory studies approaches to describe computations, while computer programming applies specific programming languages to solve specific computational problems, and human-computer interaction focuses on the challenges in making computers and computations useful, usable, and universally accessible to humans.

When you study computer and information technology, you will gain skills that can help solve problems in a variety of industries, such as business, manufacturing, law enforcement or healthcare. As more data and information become accessible from individual computers and across networks, the need for information technology experts will continue to grow. You can learn how to plan, analyze, design, build, maintain and manage projects. Professors and projects will expose you to software development, systems integration, data management and computer networks.

What is the difference between Computer science and information technology?

Hi I'm interested in computer courses to study, today I spoke to someone from one of the unis I was interested in one of the courses were more about designing and the other practical and more technical fixing and support the system. I'm really interested in that. Its called computer enterprising. .

But I want to apply to more but I get confused as every university calls the computer courses a different name. So i'm unsure if its software , or computer science , IT , IS with business. I think it could be IS with business what I'm interested in but I'm unsure. In some of the modules in the enterprise one has : information systems, computer programming ,data management , software testing , human computer interaction. developing internet applications supporting the systems kinda thing

Which computer course would include that sort of things? Its one of the practical and technical I want I'm not interested in designing. And can anyone tell me from this which computer courses is more like the one i described is it Information technology with business or something else? And is Computer science based on designing the applications? and not the more practicalWhat is the difference between Computer science and information technology?
Information Technology is a practical Engineering discipline, concerned with implementing solutions to practical problems using current-day technology.

Computer Science” is the mixture and application of “Applied Mathematics”, “Electrical Engineering”, and “Complexity Theory/Algorithms” to understand and/or model information. In other words, the “field of computation”.

What is the difference between Computer science and information technology?
I have a Computer Science degree but I work in Information technology. Computer Science is mostly focused on designing applications, and the theory behind computer software. Information Technology is more practical, it focuses on fixing and keeping systems up. However as my experience has proven one can learn enough about IT from a CS degree to get a job in it. I'm not sure what IS with business is but i would take an educated guess that it is more about the business decisions behind IT. Cost versus performance and such.

What is a book has been written about how technology has shaped the generation?

What book or author talks about how the current world revolves around technology or what is a book that predicted the world to be like this? What is a book has been written about how technology has shaped the generation?
Alvin Toffler is an American writer and futurist, known for his works discussing the digital revolution, communications revolution, corporate revolution and technological singularity. A former associate editor of Fortune magazine, his early work focused on technology and its impact (through effects like information overload). Then he moved to examining the reaction of and changes in society. His later focus has been on the increasing power of 21st century military hardware, weapons and technology proliferation, and capitalism. In his book 'The Third Wave', Toffler describes three types of societies, based on the concept of 'waves' - each wave pushes the older societies and cultures aside.

How has technology become what it is today from only nature?

Supposedly, we started off with only nature. How have we created TVs computers, internet, and live broadcasting from nothing but nature?

It almost seems impossible to even fathom the idea of creating our current technology from nature. How has technology become what it is today from only nature?
Everything is "made" by nature. Without the alloys and materials needed to make the processors and chips in our computers we wouldn't have them. Without electricity a natural form of energy we wouldn't be able to power our electronics. Rubber used to come from trees, we've just modified it. Glass used to me nothing more then heated sand. Synthetic materials are all just a conglomeration of naturally occurring materials that would have never actually combined in nature. If nature can make something as perfect as a crystal clear diamond that is nearly unbreakable, then there is no limits to what nature can make.

This could be a technology that is already been researched or one that has never been heard of. Can it be used in hospitals? Some people think cloning is the next breakthrough. Do you have any links to support your thoughts? What do you think will be the next great technology breakthrough?
I think the next big breaktrough will be be in either medicine or semiconductors....

Both are well funded, like a decade ago we didn't have cat scans etc. but theres enough money going into health it's a top candidate, I'm sure it would be ing diagnosing equipment or perhaps through chemistry finding working anti-virals etc.

Semiconductors are about to hit a wall, or the industry analists say that anyway, two years a go they supposely were about to hit a wall on how small they could make them but, within a few months that was broken. This is the fiels that creates those super microchips, they've made cpu screens that look like a plastic sheet that you can roll up, etc. and it's the foundation that basiacally every electronic device is made from. What do you think will be the next great technology breakthrough?
I think that the best new tech has to do with micro chips. These small computers are a great way to keep track of things!

Another new idea is a car powered by compressed air . If you saw the short series Futurecar on discovery you know what I am talking about.

I believe that we will not only achieve it sometime in the next 10 billion years, I think we will

achieve it in within the next few hundred years.

Part of the solution to FTL travel is adjusting our definition of what it means to travel faster than c.

For example, while it may not be possible for objects possessing mass to reach c within spacetime,

it may be quite possible to move spacetime itself with no upper speed limit. Or to put it more precisely, to move a bubble of spacetime using a type of warp drive like that used in Star Trek.

The Alcubierre Drive is a theoretical version of a faster than light warp drive that has been well

thought out. While the technology is beyond us right now, the science behind it may just be the

type of thing you are looking for. Check it out:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcubierre_鈥?/a>

Looking at the question another way, if one traverses a large distance at velocities near c, then

time dilation becomes a factor. While time in the universe at large proceeds at a normal rate, shipboard time slows down significantly. Using a spacecraft traveling close to c, it would take

about 4 years to get to Proxima Centauri according to anyone back on Earth watching the calendar. But the people on board the spacecraft would only

experience a much shorter period of time. Depending on their speed, they could make the trip

in a matter of months (or weeks), shipboard time. Essentially covering 4 light years in only months. Their

effective velocity (time per unit distance) is thus many times greater than light. A technology

like that of the Bussard Ramjet has the potential to get to relativistic velocities using nothing

more than interstellar hydrogen as its fuel. And the best part is that the technology is almost

within our capability right now. Your might want to check this out as well:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bussard_ram鈥?/a>

And those are just a couple of potentially plausible ideas. There are plenty more crazy ideas.

In millions or billions more years, I'm absolutely certain that our descendants will laugh at us

for ever thinking that the speed of light was some kind of 'ultimate speed', just as we laugh at

people who once thought that humans would die if they ever traveled faster than 30 mph in a

car.Is it possible to develop technology to travel at or above the speed of light?
Any physicist will tell you that, as long as an object has discernible mass, it is impossible for it to travel at the speed of light, let alone faster than it.

Thus, it is (extremely) unlikely that humans will ever develop technology capable of delivering objects anywhere near the speed of light.

How is technology affecting learning and tradicional schools in England?

To what extent is technology affecting learning in the uk?How is technology affecting learning and tradicional schools in England?
The real problem is that technology is being largely ignored by many students. In recent years the internet and wonderful world wide web has opened up a very easy source of research and communication. When your parents and grandparents went to school and had a homework assessment task they had to ask others, visit a library or get the big set of encyclopedias out. Now students have the answer at their fingertips, but do they use it? No of course not, most students just use technology to socially interact. Of course I am hugely generalising here but this is affecting learning. Students ignore the best that the web has to offer and I as a parent, and teacher cannot believe the ignorance that some teens prefer to live in when the answer is a click away.

The only way to truly determine how technology is affecting learning is to take it away for a while. Imagine if this happened, most adults would function completely normally - but most under the age of twenty something would not be able to cope.

Students have forgotten how to spell, structure, paragraph, formalise a discussion or argument, use pronouns and prepositions, be polite, how to speak to others in the relevant tone/style (because they message instead). They have forgotten how to be patient and wait for those things that matter (we live in an instant world) and would rather queue for the latest video game release than get an education. How is technology affecting learning and tradicional schools in England?
    This is a big topic.

Every school has computers and, usually they are networked.

Students can therefore access all sorts of learning resources using them, although internet access may be strictly controlled.

Associated technology, such as interactive whiteboards, are also becoming more widespread.

It can also be argued that these developments have forced improvements in the standard, traditional text book.

All this means that the students' learning experience should be improving, but much still depends on the quality of the face-to-face teaching received and this can be variable.

What is the difference between Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology?

Why is humankind so obsessed with fast pace technology?

Unlike other animals, they don't seem to care of creating technology. I know humans create technology because we have the mental capacity and ability.

Why are humans so into growing technology that doubles every couple years? What's the motivation that leads to this? Why is humankind so obsessed with fast pace technology?
Aside from the reason that we are highly evolved beings, human beings tend to focus on the betterment of technology simply because of two reasons.

From our viewpoint, we, the consumers, are into it simply because we want life to be better. historically speaking, for so many years, our ancestors fought hard to survived and this reason provoked their brains to work. They invented tools so that performing tasks would be easier...We demand those stuffs because we want life to become easier...

From the producers viewpoint, it's all about the money...The better the technology, the more money they will get.Why is humankind so obsessed with fast pace technology?
Human beings have grown accustomed over the past 100 years to ever increasingly instant gratification, and have pursued technology to satisfy that craving aggressively, beside the fact that humans do have the capacity and ability. Why is humankind so obsessed with fast pace technology?

What are the folkloric and mythological aspects of technology?

I have to write a paper on some aspect of technology (What I mean by technology is your hand-held devices and all of the "things" you do with them; your computers and pads; and, the Internet). In the paper I have to tease out the mythological and folkloric dimensions of the aspect of technology you have chosen. I was wondering if anyone could help me cause I have absolutely no idea what this paper is asking. What are the folkloric and mythological aspects of technology?
I think your teacher is on crack, and you can tell them I said so. Ok, so as long as there's been technology, there's been myths/legends/folklore. Think back to the old Twilight Zone episode where the crippled woman who couldn't get out of bed starts getting phone calls from her dead boyfriend, from beyond the grave (dun dun DUNNNN) and it turns out that the phone wire fell on his grave, enabling her to get calls from the Other Side.

I really, really want her coverage plan.

That was based on folklore. So you can use it to write the Haunted Ipod as folklore. As for the myth part, you can say anything, like, the technology for the cell phone was given to Steve Jobs because he gave a suit of clothes to a pixie or something.

Like I said, I think your teacher is on crack. Good luck with the assignment.

How will technology change being a teacher?

I want to be a teacher but I don't like change in a career. I know the things you teach will change, and maybe the rooms you teach in but how will technology change in this career field?

I go to an independent school so we aren't very wealthy and the government doesn't give us as much money as other schools. All we have is chalk boards a few computers, pull down screens with over head projectors, and 15 year old text books or older. So what do you think will happen in the future for this field. How will technology change being a teacher?
People are taking more and more classes online. So, one of the biggest changes will be that fewer people will actually be in a room with a teacher.

    :-)

Very probably students will be working more independently. Software can be designed to meet the needs of students at different levels in a classroom. So, instead of a teacher being in front of a classroom, trying to get students at different levels to understand something, students can study the material by themselves at a level that's appropriate for them, using iPads and other devices.

A teacher's main job will be deciding just how to use technology in the classroom. How will technology change being a teacher?
wow--good question.theres no telling where technology will go. I do know that college's are using more and more online sites and many course's now require you to attend class but also log in and use the online course also. Tablets are big now--so hopefully every student will have a tablet and you will feed them work--its so wide open.

we need teachers--so pursue your dream..........How will technology change being a teacher?
If you classes do not end up on-line entirely, you can fully expect classrooms in K to college to be "smart rooms" in which you have PC consoles and data projectors and touch screens. Chalk boards are all but gone, and any college not providing at least a white pen board, are already out of step. You will be glad that classrooms are well on their way to being upgraded.

As for the subject matter, I am hoping that it moves closer to the fundamentals of reading, writing, and math, but right now, all I am seeing is politically correct indoctrination with issues like: globalisation, race, gender, and the environment subjects, pushing students to respond in a specific sociopolitical way or face a lower overall grade. Teachers in many English courses who have ideas and are encouraging students to think for themselves are being shown the door, unless they are tenured.

Try to find a campus that genuinely tries to teach students to think independently and in a broader perspective, not just to parrot a view. Technology is good, but there is a danger of cut and paste papers turned in by students who do not want to do their own work or are afraid to do their own work or even think for themselves. The Internet is their life, and most cannot slow down and open a text and just read and take notes for their own understanding. You will find this to be your biggest challenge if you care about what you are doing.

    Hope this helps

What will technology and our world be like in 50 years?

I'm writing a novel and need to flesh out the kind of setting the book is in. I want to mirror the 1960's in the 2060's in which riots and marches take place for mutants instead of the African Americans.

Anyway, I need an idea about where technology will be in 50 years. Will it be all that different from today? Will cars still have wheels, and will house hold appliances be floating around? I'm rather stuck on this. Opinions or educated predictions are great as well as links. What will technology and our world be like in 50 years?
I'm guessing things will be more green friendly thanks to the tree huggers, but i think new advanced technology will be only for the rich. Yes i believe cars will still have wheels as it's cheaper to make cars roll than to hover. Floating stoves and fridges? bad idea. No i seriously doubt things will hover just because they can MAKE things hover. But they have already invented hovering cars. They are very ugly though. And insanely expensive. so they will probably be a little more common in 50 years but not everyone will have one. Most people wont.

They might have moon transports to take the rich people who are willing to spend millions on such a trip, As i heard they will be doing that in so many years.

They will probably reach father out in space, Perhaps mars. No farther. But it's a long trip to mars and going any faster may kill anyone on board the transport to mars. So i have doubts.

But people who say we were wrong in the 1960's misunderstand that all of that stuff was new. Scientists have a way better understanding of things by now. But that's almost arguing with myself. I stand by my first point i just wanted to state that. Who knows.

And those Bionic legs they have for the impaired will probably eventually be upgraded, Faster and stronger.

Fake hearts, You know the battery one? I'm guessing alot of it will be perfected. Perhaps eye transplant but i seriously doubt it.What will technology and our world be like in 50 years?
if we arent destroyed by global warming etc:

everything will be slimmer, sleeker, and faster. laptops might be carried around in pockets and will be lighter than an apple. alot of us will have robot body part (legs, arms etc that got broken and were replaced) and remeber stuff like elvis might be how we see classical!!! so yeh, try and use some imagination though ;)What will technology and our world be like in 50 years?
In the 1960's, people thought that by now we would all be floating around and have moonbases and spaceships, look how wrong that was.

At most schools, a Computer Engineering program will pertain to computer hardware; while an Information Technology program will pertain to computer software. Information Technology is likely to require more programming, though there will be programming in both courses of study.

Can anyone help me with which course is better? I also would like to know what sort of jobs available with aviation technology, and is which is a higer degree BEng or Bsc?

thank you for your time! Can anyone tell me the difference between aircraft engineering and aviation technology?
in engineering you learn about the inner workings of the engineering and the design decisions that go in the making of aircraft. This involves a lot of mathematics physics and a lot of engineering aviation related courses.

in technology, you learn just a top level idea on how to use some fundamentals tools and software related to aircrafts.

What effect is modern technology having on human behaviour?

Today science and modern technology is playing a major role in the way we behave but is it for the better or worse?

For example if you're a grub or crim and get caught on camera then everyone will see what you have done and if you go out and commit a crime then you may leave your DNA behind for the cops to find.

So how are these changes brought about by modern technology shaping our behaviour and how we manage to live our lives these days? What effect is modern technology having on human behaviour?
Modern technology has made life more complicated, it has eliminated jobs, caused the cost of living to skyrocket, and caused people to become more distant and greedy, yet on the other hand some aspects of it are good like you said. It is easier to find criminals and bring them to justice, there is much equipment in the medical community that saves lives. I suppose it all depends on the individual, because each individual experiences different ups and downs created by technology. I feel for the most part technology has destroyed our moral values in society, people care more about whether or not they can pay their cell phone bill than they do about whether their neighbors are going hungry. It wasn't always like that. People used to value human life, honesty and goodness, but most people only value whether they will be wealthy enough to outdo their neighbors anymore and they find joy in anothers suffering because it makes them feel smarter and better than the average Joe. I feel technology makes us more beautiful on the outside but has completely destroyed what we once valued on the inside. ;-)
Technology is always about evolution; it's like a river in flow, older water is continually replace with newer water. Again, like a river, it affects all beings living between its banks and beyond.

Modern technology has made it possible to manage one's life better. A simple example is a birthday reminder that you set on your cell phone or email. You don't have to remember every birthday of every person you know, just mark the date and put a reminder; technology will take care of the rest. So, technologies like this impact a person's life ubiquotiously.

Another aspect of modern technology is dependence, rather interdependence. Modern technology has made people dependent on it. There are people who feel lost without their cell phones, or have to check their email at the top of every hour. Such people think of themselves as 'connected'; but in reality they have let their shutters down to let everybody into their private/ personal lives. What effect is modern technology having on human behaviour?
modern technology has isolated guys, example, cell phone is useful to send sms or call anyone who is being hospitalized. in hospital they need to see or meet but the mobile phone has isolated patients, friends, lovers, and many more. these changes are brought by modern technologies. on the other hand there is no example where we have learn that owing to DNA crime has detected.. its not fruitful anyway
Technology is pretty lame because its making us live comfortable and complacent lives. There isn't much room for growth as humans when we are under so much control. We are animals.. I honestly think technology is granting us too much access to the ability to control things. Maybe approaching that point where when you hold on to something too hard, you end up breaking it. Im not sure whats going to break, but i think people are going to get fed up with this.

Atleast i would hope so. Technology is making the world a depressing place.. well, with the exception of modern medicine. What effect is modern technology having on human behaviour?
i think some technology has been helpful, but for the most part has divided us. instead of playing outside in the park or woods, children stay in and play video games. we use technology to make our lives easier, and yet people complain things are too hard. I think we should live like puritains did for a day and maybe we'd learn to get out and appriciate how good we have it. and i realize this is kind of hypocritical, but im just on working on homework.
    of course technology changes things.

instead of kids going to to play they sit on their couches and play a video game, watch tv or chat online.

internet chatrooms have changed the way people inter act with each other. chatrooms let people be whoever they want to be which can be good or bad. cops use technology all the time to catch people but that doesn't stop everyone..stops some but not all. its all good though. i love techology but i dont always like it how its used.
Look, all you need to do is get off the internet. You remind me of this lady who rants about the iPhone on Youtube about how it will cause us to become evil..Ugh..get with the trend
Technology has taken our creative thinking and made us into zombies watching T.V.

We worship the T.V and MEDIA now and it is our new GOD.
why do you care what people on the internet say about this?

    seriously?
    its both good and bad.

First-of course- the state the economy is in is completely bad for human knowlegde because we need to take care of what is around us rather than what we 'want' to be easier. Before brains thought of this technologic madness we actually had to-hard for most americans to understand- "WORK" to get where we are now. Now that something has gone wrong with the country everyone wants to save money and stop paying high gas prices. well, stop being lazy and do it yourself. Dress warm and travel either on bus, train,bike-i dont care if its too cold ur grandparents had to travel the same way or worse..walk- carpool, or as i said walk. there are many people who can't afford a car to even care about the gas prices so therefore complaints are minimal. evrything else such as groceries or medical supplies may also be complainable but atlease they have aomewaht enought money to buy those iteams because they dont use it all on cars, gas, unnessesary clothing/shopping, sit down restuarants, fast food resturants, etc....get groceries and cook healthy food-yes its possible to eat healthy food w/o using salt, packaged foods, chips, stick-in-microwaves-food-for-the-whole-f鈥?using organic seasoning-which isnt very expensive-like fresh parsley-my favorite-onions,garlic from plastic bottles that does not contain salt. very easy.

so back to the original question yes modern technology is bad for humans because people cannot stop complaining about one thing which is just too easy to fix. or even many things that are easy to fix. now the government is another completely opposite thing and another strain to talk about.

Most sound cards have an input, you just need to check what size the jack is on your computer. There are two common sizes - 1/8 inch "mini" jacks, and 1/4 inch "phono" jacks. There are very cheap adapters available. Vafam Sound on ebay is a great source for cables - good quality for cheap.

The adapter you will need will be an XLR-female to mini TRS with a 6' cable. If the computer does have a phono jack, then just get a mini to phono adapter (about $3).

Total cost to get it into your computer; about $15 plus shipping.

You would have enough left over to get a cheap mixer, like a little 2 channel soundcraft or something.
