But what is the proper word for the study? It is known as GPR ground penetrating radar. There are many portable machines that look like metal detectors and they show a difference in density. So a bone would show as more dense on the screen. Yes if you look online you can get a fairly cheap machine. The technology is getting much more affordable and they make hand held ones that just make a tone much like a metal detector when they find density changes. the US army is using them to locate mine fields much better than a metal detector
