Is Self Replicating Machines the future of space exploration?

I've been reading about this and it seems to be the most logical way to explore and specifically a way to find other life out there in our universe. What is your take on it and where are we right now in terms of this technology? Is Self Replicating Machines the future of space exploration?
My take is that the future of space exploration might be hyper-dimensionalIs Self Replicating Machines the future of space exploration?
If it is necessary to have a physical presence go somewhere to explore it then yes, self replicating machines are the most efficient way of exploring the universe. We are still many years off this though.

The machines we are talking about would most likely be on the nano-scale, and this is still a very new field of research. At the moment i think it has only been possible to create very simple machines at the nano scale however, there are many plans to build 'giant' nano-scale machines, they are just not possible to build at our current level of technology.

In terms of practicality, observations are still far superior due to the sheer distance that everything is away from us. I suspect these nano bots would only be initially sent places for 2 reasons; to confirm observations and to setup structures (communication, infrastructure on a planetary scale?) on distant planets.

As for life, i think humans will eventually stop caring about life on other planets, whether we find it or not. Advanced civilizations should be (relatively) easy to detect and primitive life on other planets will merely be a curiosity much like animals at a zoo. To be frank i think any primative life will probably end up in much the same place.

Anyway thats my 2 cents, feel free to message me.Is Self Replicating Machines the future of space exploration?
That question assumes that we will be able to make self replicating machines. Right now we build many machines, and they do many jobs, including space exploration. If we start building self replicating machines, then some of them will also do space exploration. But I do not see why a self replicating machines is better for space exploration that it is for use on Earth. So my take is that it is a question of making such machines and not what we would use them for.
